Buying a Car

If you are buying a car from a licensed dealership, the staff will help you with all the registration and title paperwork. If you traded in a car, you must remove the license plates of the car and put them in your new car. If you purchased a new car, the dealer will typically give you a temporary document while you receive the license plates through the mail. If you are buying a car from a private party, the seller must provide you with an Odometer Disclosure Statement and a Damage Disclosure Statement. He or she must also transfer the title to you and provide a bill of sale as proof of the transfer of property.
